OSBORN - Nellie B. Shorey, 80, died Oct. 3, 2014 at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1933, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Howard E. and Flora E. (Welch) Jordan.
Nellie married Lawrence E. Shorey on October 24, 1952. She dedicated her life to her family and was a homemaker. Nellie was a member of the 4Town Senior Citizens Group, which was held at the Osborn Community Center.
Nellie is survived by her two daughters and special son-in-laws, Ellen and Hollis Smith Sr. of Birch Harbor, Lynn and Dan Warford of Hancock; a special daughter-in-law, Lorna Shorey of Osborn; eight grandchildren, Dean Smith and partner, Tammy Worster, Jason Worster and partner, Heidi Jarvis, Jennifer Worster and partner, Alyssa Giardino, Craig Smith and wife, Emily, Holly Smith, Benjamin Shorey and wife, Lauren, Crystal Shorey and partner, David Butterfield and Brandon Shorey; eight great grandchildren, Hannah and Ian, Taylor and Ashley, Kaitlyn and Max and Garrett and Elizabeth; a brother, Richard B. Graeme and wife, Lucy Beal of Iowa; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence on Feb. 17, 1979; a son, Allan on Dec. 26, 2013 and her siblings, Arletta, Ambrose, Benjamin and June.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at the Osborn Community Center, Rte.179, Osborn, with Pastor Kaye Wolfe officiating. Those who desire may make contributions in Nellie's memory to the Airline Community School, Library Fund, 26 Great Pond Road, Aurora, ME 04408. Special thanks to the MCMH staff for her comfort and wonderful care in the last few days of her life. Arrangements in care of Acadia Burial and Cremation Direct, 248 State St., Ellsworth.
