Nellie's Story

NEWPORT - Nellie Louise (Andrews) Rudder, 76, passed away unexpectedly February 11, 2016 at her residence from complications related to heart surgery. She was born January 18, 1940 in Palmyra, the second child of Neal and Grace (Burlock) Andrews. Nellie graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1957.

She spent many of her early adult years raising her 2 sons in El Cajon, CA. Later, she moved to Santee, CA, where she purchased a condominium. She was employed in nearby San Diego as a warranty manager for several automobile dealers, eventually retiring from John Hine Pontiac there. In 2005, Nellie moved back to Maine, built a house in East Newport, and worked part time at the Newport Cultural Center. It was here in Maine that she was able to pursue the passion of her life—country music. She took guitar lessons and brushed up on the lyrics of many songs. She became a member of both the Maine and the Down East Country Music Associations. She could be found a couple nights a week playing guitar and singing at various country music jams throughout central Maine. She was voted the 2015 traditional country senior female vocalist of the year for central Maine. Nellie loved music, the musicians and the "magic!"

She is survived by her first husband, Charles G. Clark of Morro Bay, CA; 2 sons, Michael Neal Clark and wife Sonseree of Killeen, Texas and Roger Neal Clark of Yucca Valley, California; 2 grandchildren, Michael "Mickey" Clark (24) and Charles "Chucky" Clark (19) both of Kileen, Texas; a sister, Carol Seamans of Stetson; 3 brothers and their wives, Gerald and Sandy of Naples, Roger and Joelyn of Provo, Utah, and Alton and Roxanne of Westport Island; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an older sister, Roberta; and 4 younger brothers, Neal, Richard, Francis and Roland.
