CANTON, CONN. - Neil Douglas Chapman, 73, of Canton, CT, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home. Born in Bangor, Sept. 25, 1940, son of the late George Chapman and Mina (Hanson) Cormier, he was raised in Bangor and had lived in Canton, CT for the last three years.
After high school, Neil served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1961. In 1964, Neil and his family moved to Torrington, CT where he lived for 28 years. He worked as a machinist at New Departure in Bristol, CT for many years before deciding to move back to Bangor to care for his mother. While living in Maine, Neil worked for the State of Maine at an assisted living facility. After his mother's passing, he returned to Connecticut to be closer to his family and settled in Canton, CT. In his spare time, Neil enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.
He leaves two daughters, Kimberley Blair and her husband, Daniel of Simsbury, CT and Vicki Chapman of Torrington, CT; four grandchildren, Stanley Knotowicz, Alicia Medaglia, Zachary Medaglia, and Grace Shea. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Chapman; a sister, Glenda Chapman; and his longtime companion, Dolly Bryson.
His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 30, with a service of remembrances and military honors at 7:30 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT 06035. Burial will be private in Bangor. Donations in Neil's memory may be made to the Granby Food Bank, c/o Farmington Valley VNA, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070.
