- Nancy Ada (Esty) Benn, 76, left her Earthly home in the presence of her loving husband and passed to her Heavenly home on May 7, 2017, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Island Falls, ME, on July 28, 1940, the daughter of Kermit Russell and Frances Manerva (Gardner) Esty.
On December 25, 1971, Nancy married her best friend and greatest love, Shirley "Butch" Rockwell Benn. She attended school at East Machias, Sherman Mills and Presque Isle, graduating from Bridgewater Classical Academy, Bridgewater, in 1958, the Aroostook State Teachers College (UMPI) in Presque Isle with a Bachelors Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation in June 1962. Nancy taught school at Lisbon High School, Lisbon Falls; Lawrence High School, Fairfield; and Woodland Elementary School, Baileyville. Following her teaching career, Nancy became the Director of Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency, working out of the Aroostook County Courthouse in Houlton for nearly 20 years. She was a former member of Houlton Grange and Aroostook Pamona Grange and most currently a member of the Amity Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of 46 years, Nancy is survived by her stepdaughter, Laurie (Benn) O'Neal, her husband, Gary, and son, Caleb, of PA; sister, Delia "Dee" (Esty) Bess and her husband, William, of Presque Isle; sister-in-law, Shirley (Smith) Esty of AZ; Ruth (Benn) Bartlett of Littleton; Joann (Benn) Wilson of Houlton; Nancy (Benn) Burton of NH; and Peggy (Sawyer) Benn of Weston. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Nancy was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Gilbert L. Esty; brother-in-law, Robert Cecil Benn; and her daughter, FraniSue.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. May 12, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, with the Reverend Dan Blevin officiating. Fellowship will directly follow the service and the interment will be held at the close of fellowship at the New Limerick Cemetery.
