MADISON - Nancy C. Dean, 80, of Madison, CT died unexpectedly Feb. 18, 2014, in Fort Myers, Fla.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Glen. In addition to her husband, she leaves her four children, Melissa Humphrey of New Hartford, CT, Barbara (& Gary) Carskaddan of Worcester, MA, David & Cathy) Dean of Wallingford, CT and Megan (& Michael) Georgio of Warwick, RI. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. She is survived by her sister, Jane Parker, of Sunset Beach, NC.
Nancy was a devoted first grade teacher at the Melissa Jones Elementary School in Guilford, CT and had life-long relationships with many of her students, following their college, marriage and child-rearing years. She was a voracious reader and shared her love of books with family and friends, recommending "good reads" specifically selected for each person and was an active member of the Madison Book Club. Nancy loved to garden with her green thumb and shared her beautiful roses and vegetables generously. She was a member of the North Madison Congregational Church for many years. She wrote the longest hand-written letters to family and friends and always included pertinent newspaper clippings of interest. But her time with family was her greatest love. She made each of her 11 grandchildren believe they were the most important with her extensive knowledge of what each liked and specially selected gifts.
There will be a memorial service for Nancy 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15 in the Madison Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Madison, CT Public Library.
