Nance's Story

BANGOR - In the early evening on September 29th, 2015 in Bangor, Maine, Nance Kobern passed away from this world surrounded by her children. Nance was born Nancy Ailes on June 22nd, 1947 in West Grove, PA.

Nance raised her four wonderful children on her own, while still managing to earn a BFA degree in Music from the University of Maine. She also taught piano lessons privately in Bangor.

Throughout her life, Nance held true to her beliefs of putting family and morality first. She would never hesitate to help those in need, or to share whatever she had with others. She instilled these same beliefs in her children, who will remember her fondly as their guiding light and the center of their family life.

Nance is survived by her eldest daughter Laura England, her son Ryan England and his three children; Alexis, Joseph, and Emily England, her son Andrew England, and her youngest daughter Erin Cotlar, and son-inlaw Brian Cotlar, who are expecting Nance's fourth grandchild "Ella" this month.

In addition to her passion for music, which she regarded as a universal language, Nance had a penchant for animals. She loved all animals but was particularly fond of cats and dogs, preferring to rescue or adopt them. She provided many a stray with a warm and loving home.

At Nance's request, there will be no service, but a private gathering will be held for immediate family to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nance's memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society or to your local animal shelter.
