LITTLE DEER ISLE - Myron Stanley Hardy, Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle, Maine with his youngest daughter by his side. He was born on September 24, 1929 in Stonington, ME, to the late Cecil C. Hardy and Elsie M. (Dow) Hardy of Deer Isle, ME.
Myron grew up in Deer Isle. As a youth, he enjoyed fishing and swimming at Lily Pond with his siblings and friends. After he graduated from Deer Isle High School, he joined the U.S. Army, serving on various bases in the U.S., Germany, and England. He traveled most of Europe. Myron served for 21 years and retired as a decorated Master Sergeant. Later, he served in the Civilian Corp in Greenland. He reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Denise Snowman, when he moved back to Deer Isle, were married in 1973. After he retired from the military, he spent time scalloping and lobstering, then later worked for Maine Maratime Academy. He worked for Boston Fuel Transport for close to 20 years. Myron and Denise ran Myden's Bakery in Little Deer Isle for several years where Myron showcased his baking skills with breads, muffins, pies, donuts, etc. He won the blue ribbon at the Blue Hill Fair one year for his blueberry pie. For several years, he worked with his dear friend, Sam Eaton, doing carpentry on the island. He was a very hard worker.
Myron was a lifelong member of the Mason's, American Legion, Pomona Grange, and the former Master of the Deer Isle Grange. He was a member of Saunders Memorial Congregational Church and served on the board of Gray's Hill Cemetery in Little Deer Isle. He was an active volunteer for the Deer Isle Historical Society.
Myron is survived by his children, Steven Fontaine of Little Deer Isle, Taryn Monroe and husband, Ken of Winter Harbor, and Wendy Dyer of Little Deer Isle; Michael Hardy, Valerie Hardy, and Myron Hardy Jr.; 1 sister, Mary P. Hardy of Deer Isle, ME; 8 grandchildren, Jessica Grant and husband, Patrick, Jada Butler (Craig), Jason Dyer (Holly), Lindsey Aubrey and husband, Ryne, Brett Fontaine (Kassie), Adam Dyer (Connie), Seth Dyer and wife, Ashley, and Justin Fontaine; 8 great-grandchildren, Graham and Saylor Grant, Keegan and Judson Butler, Jessaniel and Josiah Dyer, Leah Fontaine, and Solomon Dyer.
He was predeceased by Denise Beryle (Snowman) Hardy, his loving wife of 43 years, just 7 weeks prior to his passing; both of his parents; two brothers, Cecil Hardy Jr. and Donald Hardy; special son-in-law, William "Billy" Dyer; his beloved in-laws, Clyde and Vera Snowman.

A graveside service with U.S. Army honors and Masonic ceremony is scheduled for 10am, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Gray's Hill Cemetery in Little Deer Isle, ME with Rev. Douglas Drown officiating. A reception will follow at the Saunders Memorial Congregational Church Vestry. A joint celebration of life for Myron and Denise, will be scheduled at a later date.
