CORINNA AND NEWPORT - Muriel E. Micue, 93, received her wings and passed from the physical world into the spiritual world, January 4, 2016 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born May 23, 1922 in Exeter, a daughter of Jerauld and Annie (Buswell) Butters. She graduated as Valedictorian from Exeter High School and the University of Maine. Muriel was a teacher in the Athens and Madison school districts.
She was a member of the Corinna United Methodist Church and the Cleora Rebekah Lodge where she was a past Noble Grand. She was an avid Bingo player, loved playing Scrabble, knitting, crocheting and was a great cook. Muriel was considered a fixture at Hollywood Slots and traveled to many casinos around the United States. She was a past grand marshal for the Harmony Free Fair as she had attended every season since its inception. Muriel was known by many as "Nana" and loved by all.
She is survived by a son, James Small of Corinth; 2 daughters, Judith Jones of Corinth and Sherrill and husband Linwood "Wally" Wallace of Newport; 9 grandchildren, Jeff and wife Lisa Tilton, Heidi and husband Andy Cohen, Melissa and husband Jeff Amoroso, Sherri Leeman, Kimberly Dodge-Cummings and husband George; Auril and wife Michelle Tasker, Jr., Mark Tasker and partner Karen Taft, Timothy and wife Jen Gould, Sue and husband Vern Palmer; 26 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Jean Butters of Wildersville, TN; many nieces and nephews; and Special Friends, Betty Grant and Arlene Jordan. She was predeceased by her first husband, Merrill Small; her second husband Dick Micue; a daughter Starr Davis; 2 brothers, Malcolm and Henry Butters; 3 grandchildren, Michael Tilton, Melanie Bragg, and Mindy Gould; a great granddaughter, Amanda "Mandi" Foss.
The family would like to thank Michelle Tasker and Jan Small for their friendships and a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital for the exceptional care Muriel received.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, January 7th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday at the Corinna United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry McKinley officiating. Spring burial will be in the Exeter Center Cemetery.
