Milford's Story

SEARSPORT - Milford W. Grant, 89, of Searsport, died Dec. 15, 2015 at Waldo County General Hospital Belfast, ME. Born January 23, 1925 in Searsport, ME, he was the son of the late Ernest and Bertha Almeda Moody Corry Grant.

Milford proudly served his country during the World War II from 1944 to 1946. Milford married Jeanette C. Carr on Aug. 10, 1946 in Searsport. He was an avid gardener and bird watcher. Milford loved spending time with his family. Milford and Jeanette moved to Connecticut where they raised their family. Milford retired from Pratt & Whitney and moved back to Searsport, Maine to spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by one daughter, Janet G. Mongillo of Searsport, ME and Southington, CT, 2 granddaughters, Lori Mongillo of CT and Marci Mongillo Clevenger of TN, 2 great grandchildren, ErikaRose Sokolowski of CT and Brodie Clevenger of TN, 3 sister-in-laws, Eunice Cushman of TX and VT, Adelaide Rossi of MA, and Tina Gould of Searsport, ME, two very special nephews, Rodney Littlefield and his wife Betty of Belfast, ME and Kenneth Grant and his wife Janet, a special great niece Nicole Hesse and her family, several additional nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog and companion, Lexi. Milford was predeceased by his loving wife Jeanette C. Grant, his parents, two brothers, Walter Cory, Vernon Grant a sister Lila Littlefield his son-in-law, John A.(Jack) Mongillo, 4 brother-in-laws, James Carr, Ernest Cushman, Lloyd Gould.

Donations preferred to and in lieu of flowers to the Searsport United Methodist Church, PO Box 122, Searsport, ME 04976. Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport, ME. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Searsport United Methodist Church in Searsport. Burial will take place at Merithew Cemetery in Searsport at a later date in the spring. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Young Funeral Home.
