Text size

Brewer - Mildred E. (Locke) Goodness, 83, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 7, 2016. Born in Fort Fairfield, ME, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Goodness, her parents Eugene and Marion (Stone) Locke and her brother Charles Locke.

Mildred was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and earned an Associate Degree from Husson College in their Medical Secretarial program. After holding secretarial positions at a military installation, medical offices, her church and other professional offices, most of her career was spent providing secretarial support to her self-employed husband in his accounting practice and serving as the Warden for Ward 4.

Mildred, Millie to her friends, was known as kind and generous and was well known for her gift baskets of goodies. Her kindheartedness also lead her into the role of caregiver to many elderly relatives and infirm friends, over her lifetime.

She was active in many community organizations including Boy and Girl Scouts, PTA, school athletic and music programs, library and church organizations. Mildred was a longtime member of Brewer's First United Methodist Church and a number of their committees and organizations. Millie enjoyed working on her family's genealogy and loved to travel (including all 50 states, Europe and Canada), garden, attend her children's and grandchildren's activities and luncheons with friends.

Mildred is survived by her three daughters, both Vickie Goodness (Stephen Letourneau) and Kathy Goodness of Madison, Alabama and Jeanne Adomatis of Bucksport; one son, Jon Goodness (Linda Breau); along with grandchildren David and Naomi, of Carmel, and Matthew (Ashli) and great-granddaughter Madison of Veazie; one brother, Stephen Locke (Carmen), of Conway, SC, one sister-in-law, Elsie Henderson (widow of Charles Locke), of Roseville, CA, one brother-in-law Richard Goodness of Brewer; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life is planned for late April, at the First United Methodist Church, Brewer, with a reception following the service. Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer will release more details at a later date. Mildred will be laid to rest with her husband at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, ME. Friends who wish to contribute in Mildred Goodness' honor may do so to the First United Methodist Church, 40 S Main Street, Brewer, ME 04412 or the Brewer Public Library, 100 S Main Street, Brewer, ME 04412.
