LANTANA, FLA. - 76, of Lantana, Fla., passed away May 26, 2014, surrounded by his family after a brief illness at his daughter's home in Warren, MA. Born June 8, 1937, in Bangor, Maine, the son of the late William and Eleanor Welch.
Michael graduated from John Bapst in 1955, where he contributed his talent to the basketball team as an outstanding guard. He ranked top as a quarterback and track team member. He attended Maine Maritime Academy, and served with the Merchant Marines, then worked in automobile sales and management.
Michael loved life and touched many hearts with his wisdom and kindness. He adored his children, grandchildren, and it was his great-grandchildren that helped him through the past 5 months.
He was preceded in death by brothers, William and Jim Welch, and is survived by his son, Michael Welch, Jr. and fiancée, Nancy Gilmore of Dudley, MA; his daughter, Jodi-Ann Brecht and husband, Timothy Brecht of Warren , MA.; two granddaughters, Breanna and Lindsay; and 5 great-grandchildren, all of Massachusetts; a special niece, Karen and her husband, Bill Rankin; sister-in-law, Jackie Welch; and his Florida family, Phillip and Janice Baer.
Dad, you will be forever in our hearts; we will miss your warm sense of humor, your patience, kind smile and your words of wisdom. Until we meet in heaven, we love you.
A Mass will be held June 28, 2014, at St. Mary's parish, Ohio Street at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. A gathering and celebrating of his life will be held immediately after at the Bangor Elks Lodge #244, 108 Odlin Road.
