Michael's Story

VAN BUREN - Michael R. Bresett, 60, died Monday, October 27, 2014, at his home with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1954 in Springfield, MA, a son of Margurite (Perusse) Bresett and the late Richard Bresett.

Mike enlisted with the US Army in 1972, serving in Germany during Vietnam. Later, he proudly served with the Maine National Guard following the 9/11 attacks, assisting in securing the nation's borders.

Mike was a devoted teacher, last working with Van Buren District Schools over 13 years, until his retirement in 2014. He also taught classes with Northern Maine Community College for several years. He served on the Van Buren Town Council and the Town Budget Committee for several years. He enjoyed tending to his farm and especially liked to fish, hunt, swim, or simply anything to enjoy the outdoors. Times he spent at family get-togethers were most memorable as he loved to share his many stories and jokes.
