VAN BUREN - Michael R. Bresett, 60, died Monday, October 27, 2014, at his home with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1954 in Springfield, MA, a son of Margurite (Perusse) Bresett and the late Richard Bresett.

Mike enlisted with the US Army in 1972, serving in Germany during Vietnam. Later, he proudly served with the Maine National Guard following the 9/11 attacks, assisting in securing the nation's borders.

Mike was a devoted teacher, last working with Van Buren District Schools over 13 years, until his retirement in 2014. He also taught classes with Northern Maine Community College for several years. He served on the Van Buren Town Council and the Town Budget Committee for several years. He enjoyed tending to his farm and especially liked to fish, hunt, swim, or simply anything to enjoy the outdoors. Times he spent at family get-togethers were most memorable as he loved to share his many stories and jokes.

He is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Dianne (Moores) Bresett of Van Buren; his mother of Van Buren, six children, Jennifer Bresett and her husband, Michael Stanco of Van Buren, Michael Bresett II and his wife, Stephanie of Van Buren, Joshua Bresette and his wife, Heather of Van Buren, Jessica Gagnon and her husband, Dwayne of Caribou, Rebekah Ouellette and her husband, Joey of Van Buren, and Melissa Badahman and her husband, Hassan of Chandler, AZ; one brother, Richard Bresett and his wife, Peggy of Los Altos, CA; three sisters, Gail Bresett of Oklahoma, Judy Hardt of Van Buren, and Marianne Bresett of Madawaska; eleven grandchildren, Mykayla, Tyler, Aidan, Riley, Isaac, Kailynn, Brock, Taylor, Mylah, Josh, and Jenna; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Mike is predeceased by one brother, Doug Bresett.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, November 1, 2014 1-4 p.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, followed by military honors. Memorial services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mikes name may be made to: The Edgar J.
