BAR HARBOR - Merval Charles Porter Sr., of Bar Harbor, passed away April 22, 2014 at the Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor. He was born June 29, 1922 in Monticello, Me., to Horace and Respa Porter.

On a trip to England to visit his daughter Debbie, he was able to go to France to revisit Omaha Beach, where he remembered meeting up with his brother, Galen. He spent many hours reminiscing his time spent in Europe; and shared many stories with anyone who would listen. He was a member of the VFW and a longtime member of Eden Baptist Church.

Merval is survived by his five children, Linda Sawyer and husband Gerard, Robin Porter, Merval (Rocky) Porter, Jr. and wife Susan, Debra Edge and husband Steve, Timothy Porter and wife Margaret (Maggie); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Bethune of Georgia; one brother-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law; many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Merval was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Daisy Levensailor Porter; 2 sisters, Greta Ramsdell and Regina (Tuddy) of Brewer; and 4 brothers, James, Russell (Jake), Byron and Galen Porter.

A graveside service is planned for June 29th, 1:00 p.m. at the Leland Cemetery in Trenton. Pastor Robert Maddocks will officiate.
