- Merle L. Jordan, 84, passed away May 5, 2017, as a result of an accident at his home. He was born in Edinburg, January 8, 1933, the son of Virgil and Emma (Ayers) Jordan.
Merle was a graduate of Old Town High School and served 4 years in the US Navy. He proudly retired from the Portland Police Department and went on to own and operate his own general contracting business. Merle was also a member of the Anah Shrine and a member of Corner Stone Lodge #216, A.F. & A.M.
Merle was an avid outdoorsman and loved taking his grandchildren fishing. He was the caretaker of wild animals, feeding whatever critters came into his yard. He was a passionate gardener, and created many flower and vegetable gardens at his home. Merle was strong-willed, sincere, and full of wisdom. He was a "Man's Man" and a true gentleman, but his greatest pride was in his family.
In addition to his parents, Merle was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Winfield. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Glenn of Missouri, Stephen and wife, Robyn of Minnesota, Cheryl of Texas and Lynn of Georgia; his stepdaughters, Lisa Caron and husband, Paul of Raymond, Bethanie Mercier and husband, Keith of Bangor, and Rachel Soucy and husband, Mark of Augusta; his sisters, Elois Savage of The Villages, FL, and Mildred Boelter of East Bethel, MN; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family invites relatives and friends to share in a celebration of Merle's life 2-4 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the family home, 1426 Edinburg Road, Edinburg, ME 04448.
