PITTSFIELD - Maynard E. Dahlgren, 83, died peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2015, in Bangor.
Maynard was born on April 7, 1932, in Woodland, Maine, the son of the late Evald and Gladys (Nelson) Dahlgren. He graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1949 and married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Green. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. Maynard was well known in the Pittsfield community as he was the longtime owner of Maynard's Barbershop, and then delivered mail for the Pittsfield Post Office until his retirement. He was also involved in the Pittsfield Jaycees, served on the town council, and was the mayor of Pittsfield for two terms.
Maynard enjoyed being outdoors; golfing, gardening, yardwork, and swimming in his backyard pool. He loved his snacks, loved to dance, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had many neighbors that became dear, lifelong friends. Maynard was a unique man; kind, patient, loving, and truly a friend to all who met him. He always gave of himself to any that needed him and was an inspiration to all, especially, his children and grandchildren who will feel his love and guidance forever. It has been said that if you could handpick your dad, you would pick him. He will be lovingly missed.
