AUGUSTA - Max S. Cohen died peacefully in his sleep, on Dec. 21, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born on March 13, 1925, in Bangor, the son of Robert and Fannie (Alpert) Cohen.
He was predeceased by his wife Natalie E. Cohen (Koven) and survived by his daughters Ruth, and Gail and her spouse Gary Weiss; and his grandson Joel Weiss. He is also predeceased by his brothers George and Edward.
Max served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He attended the University of Maine and received his law degree from Boston University. Until 1975, Max practice law in Bangor, and then moved to Augusta to work with the State of Maine. He worked in the Department of Transportation until 1995 when he retired. Temple Beth El was an important part of his life.
Services will be graveside at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. Eulogies and memorial services will take place immediately following at Temple Beth El, Woodlawn Rd., Augusta. Shiva that night will be at the Maine Veterans Home, 310 Cony Rd., Augusta from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements by Portland Jewish Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Temple Beth El or Maine Veterans Home.
