Maurice's Story

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Maurice M. "Mac" McKay, Sr. 84, husband of Mary (Pratt) McKay, went home to be with his Lord July 20, 2015. Mac was born May 7, 1931, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Henry M. McKay and Alice E. Blake.

He was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1949. He served as an Airman 1/C in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict of 1950-1953. He then worked as a salesman for P.E. Ward and Co. for 40 years. Mac was a member of the Joseph P. Chaisson American Legion Post No. 41 in Milo, and a member of the Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid fan of Foxcroft Academy sports, and the Boston Red Sox. Nothing gave him more pleasure than watching his children and grandchildren play ball. He also loved the time spent at the YMCA with his good friends, Jeff Prestridge and John MacIntire.

Mac was preceded by his parents, a brother, Clayton McKay and a sister, Marilyn Campbellton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Dover-Foxcroft; three sons, Bruce and his wife, Lori, McKay of Cumberland Foreside, Brian and his wife, Maryanne, McKay of Attleboro, MA, and Maurice McKay, Jr., and his companion, Kathy Dumont, of Sabattus; a daughter, Sharon Dauphinee and her husband, Jeff, of Charlotte, NC. He leaves behind ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call 4-6pm Friday, July 24, 2015, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A private memorial service will be held at the family lot in Gray Cemetery.
