ORRINGTON - MaryLou Ryan, 46+9, died Monday, February 9, 2015, at a Bangor hospital. She was born January 7, 1960, in Milo, the daughter of Ronald and Loretta (Welch) Ryan. She graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1978.
MaryLou was full of life, and had a passion for giving back to others. She made regular contributions to local shelters and soup kitchens, and volunteered time with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Her biggest passion was participating in any event contributing to breast cancer research.
MaryLou was interested in gardening, traveling to Mexico, dancing on tables, binge watching "I Love Lucy" reruns and "The Wizard of Oz." Her favorite thing to do was sitting on the back deck with her Hunny and her favorite beverage. MaryLou would start talking the second her feet hit the floor. It didn't matter the age, personality, or if it was the store clerk at Wal-Mart. Most importantly, MaryLou was a caregiver to those around her. Her personality lightened any situation, especially when her Doctor Brief Case came out (and all its 'stolen' items). MaryLou was an organ donor and would be extremely humbled to know that she helped so many others in such a significant way.
MaryLou is survived by her loving husband, Tom Helms; their kids, Jeremy Ryan and wife Kara, Tommy Helms, Jr. and wife Tracy, Mindy Leighton and partner Michael Gerrish, and Krista-Rae Helms; her mother, Loretta Ryan and partner Bill Dean; brothers Barry Ryan and wife Gail, Craig Ryan and wife Melody, Brent Ryan and wife Joy, Kevin Ryan and wife Gaynor, and Robert Ryan and wife Kimberly; and many treasured nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and special friends. She was predeceased by her father.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8pm, Thursday, February 12 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, February 13, with Pastors Don Booker and Chris Helms officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., immediately following the service. Those who wish to remember MaryLou in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, c/o Susan G. Komen, P.O.
