For Christ's sake I'm dead and I'm only 67 years old! When the man upstairs says your "it" - your time is up. I've have had a good life. I was born on May 22, 1949 and grew up in Bingham, Maine. Mom was Geneva Gordon and Dad was Douglas Gordon. My Grandmothers Gladys Goff and Alice Gordon and Grandfather John Gordon were very special to me as well as Uncle Alan Goff and Aunt Rowena Giberson. I am with them now.
I met my husband Shawn Small when we were on our High School Winter Sports Team. Didn't like him at first but Mom liked him and eventually he grew on me - only after he pestered me a lot. We married on August 23, 1969 and celebrated our 47th anniversary by finally formally adopting our adult son Rob Cody, more about him later.
I am really proud of my children and grand children: Shannon Small of Glenburn; Cindy Small and her husband Ryan Dumond of Brewer and their children Cole and Trey; Gordon Small of Madison and his son Tristan Small; Jessica Small of Brewer and her partner Matt Nichols and his daughter Ruby of Bangor; and Rob Cody (who has been a son to us since shortly after he graduated from high school) and his wife Theresa of Milford and their two lovely daughters Gabby and Payton. So that's it, 5 children and 6 grandchildren --- to date. Grandkids call me "Meme".
I am also survived by siblings, Donald Gordon and his wife Gail of Bangor, Martha Hunt and her husband David of Fairfield, Wade Gordon and his wife Ann of Kingfield; and many nieces and nephews. Also several very special friends - you know who you are.
After graduating from Upper Kennebec Valley Memorial High School I went to Nursing School at Saint Josephs Hospital in Bangor Maine and graduated as a LPN. Practiced nursing for several years until Shawn and I agreed that he would work to support our growing family and I would become a full time Mom. After the kids grew up, I was a seamstress at a bridal shop in Bangor. Worked at JoAnn's Fabrics also in Bangor and volunteered for Beacon Hospice. I also started my own business "Chill Out" and made fleece clothing. At one time I had sales booths at three locations.
I enjoyed summers with family at our camp at Pleasant Pond in Caratunk, Maine. I had many special friends at Pleasant Pond. I also enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling with friends and family, going to concerts, alpine skiing, ice skating, bicycling, swimming at both Pleasant Pond and at the Y in Old Town, and working in the garden (you should see my flower garden at camp). Later in life I really enjoyed paddle boarding at Pleasant Pond. Most of all I enjoyed being with my family. Helping my children and doing things with my Grandchildren was my joy in life.
I invite all relatives and friends to visit me and my family on September 10, 2016 at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main Street, Old Town, ME 04468. My life will be celebrated from 4:00 to 6:00 followed by an informal service. At the service, I would like to hear your favorite story or memory of me and do not be afraid of using a little color. Instead of flowers please donate to my favorite charity which is the Old Town Animal Orphanage, PO Box 565, Orono, Maine. You can also share stories by visiting www.birminghamfuneralhome.com.
