Mary's Story

BONITA SPRINGS - Mary Lou Pray of Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully the morning of August 25th at age 73. "ML" to her friends and family, succumbed to CJD in the early morning hours, at home, with her husband by her side.

Mary Lou was born to Horace and Edwina Tompkins in the front bedroom of their farmhouse in Palmyra, ME on November 17th, 1940. Mary Lou graduated from her beloved Maine Central Institute (MCI) in 1959 where she was a varsity cheerleader and all-state field hockey player. After high school, she attended Wilfred Academy in Boston, MA. While Mary Lou grew up in Pittsfield, ME she spend most of her adult life in Freeport, ME. She was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Mary Lou was incredibly patriotic. She retired to Bonita Springs, FL but spent summers on the Maine coast. She attended the Community Congregational Church of Bonita Springs, FL and volunteered at the church store.

She is survived by her husband Millard Pray of Bonita Springs, FL, sister Jolene Smith of Bonita Springs, FL, three children, Michael McMann (Lyka) of the Philippines, Laura Hurley (John) of Duluth, MN, John McMann (Christine) of New Gloucester, ME, 3 step-children, Kimberly Pray of Freeport, ME, Stephanie Hughes (Dan) of Goffstown, NH, Toby Pray of Lambertville, NJ, 12 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life in Bonita Springs, FL in November and a celebration of life in Maine the summer of 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the CJD Foundation or Maine Central Institute.
