Milford - Mary Louise Georgia, 78, died peacefully January 2, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born February 3, 1938, in East Lyme, CT, a daughter of Violette Roberts. She was raised by her grandmother, Mary Louise Roberts, whom she was named after, and her aunt Imelda Szynal.
Mary was a voracious reader and enjoyed many different authors, she was known to devour a book in a weekend. She will be remembered as a caring, compassionate, and strong woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She has been a lifelong supporter of the American Red Cross Blood Donation program and she is a member of the "100 gallon" club. She was a long-time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and also sponsored a child from Honduras.
Mary grew up in CT, where she met her loving husband David. In 1967, they decided to escape the fast pace of Connecticut and move their growing family to Old Town. She retired from James River after 24 years of service. She and David enjoyed winters in Bradenton, Florida, and especially loved Anna Maria Island and Coquina Beach.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and especially enjoyed times spent with family.
She is survived by five children David Georgia Jr. and his companion Dawn Adams of Greenfield Twp, Michael Georgia and his wife Karen of Milford, Mark Georgia and his wife Rebecca of Milford, Antoinette "Toni" Meservey and her husband Barry of Greenfield Twp, Katherine Georgia-St. Louis and her husband Brian of Milford; grandchildren Danielle, Michelle, Savannah, Christopher, Corey and Kayla, Brady, Nicholas, Aimee, Benjamin, Samantha, Cody and Shelby, Natalie, Lucas and Alyssa; great grandchildren Maximus, Molly, Olivia, Preston, Owen, Stella, Bradley; sister-in-law Diana Meizinger and her husband Joe of Mount Laurel, NJ, aunt Angie Kluntz of Seabastin, FL, close cousin Sandra and George Fitzpatrick of Windsor CT, special friends Patricia England of Bangor, and Chuck and Nina Bismark of Bradenton, FL; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years David in 2016; siblings Shirley Durant, grandmother Mary Louise Roberts, aunt and uncle Joe and Marie DeLusso, aunt Mickey Szynal.
A celebration of Mary's life will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where friends and family will gather from 12 noon until time of service.
