SCARBOROUGH - Mary Anne Foley, 95, died at her home in Scarborough on April 27, 2016. Born February 17, 1921 in Eastport, Maine, Mary was the daughter of the late John Clarke and Eleanor Forest Clarke.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice in 2002 after 47 years of marriage. Surviving her are daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Brian Durham of Scarborough, brother-in- law, Lawrence Foley of Jennings, Louisiana, and four generations of nieces and nephews.
Mary was raised in Pembroke, Maine and following graduation from Pembroke High School, worked at the Quoddy Dam Project before moving to New Jersey to attend Drake's Business College, graduating in 1941. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Waves) in 1943, serving in communications until the end of World War II. She returned home to Maine and worked in Machias until marriage brought her to Portland and South Portland. She retired from the State of Maine Department of Veterans Services.
Mary was a member of Holy Cross Church in South Portland for many years and was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Scarborough for the last year.
Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 3 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough. A luncheon reception will be held following the services. Burial will be at 12 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
Donations may be made in her memory to Scarborough Terrace or Compassus Hospice, whose compassionate care and companionship meant so much to Mary and her family.
