Martin's Story

DEER ISLE - Martin Cleveland Weed, 84, died August 23, 2015. He was born May 20, 1931 in Little Deer Isle, the son of Donald and Elisa (Eaton) Weed.

Martin attended Deer Isle Schools. He served in the U.S. Army, Korean War. He returned to Deer Isle and worked at the Deer Isle Granite Corp., Providence Granite Corp. He was a self-employed carpenter for 20 years, and self-employed lobster man for 12 years until he retired at the age of 83.

He enjoyed working in his shop and lobstering on the Myra P. and Myra P. II. He enjoyed his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He's survived by his wife, Myra P. Weed of 59 years; children, Gerald Weed of Deer Isle, Terri-Lee (Weed) Jones and her husband Frank of Stonington, Sandra (Weed) White and her husband John of Brooklin, Michelle (Weed) Mahon and her husband Jon of Ellsworth and Michael Weed and his wife Eva of Deer Isle; grandchildren, Jessica Welch, Benjamin Weed, Derek Jones, Kyle Jones, Brittany Jones, Nicholas Eaton, Stamatea Eaton, Lacey Eaton, Steven and Trent Mahon, Curtis and Megan Weed; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Emma, Andrew, Emery, Harper, Gage and Jeremiah; lots of nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Robert Poitras and his wife Nancy of Frankfort; and 13 brothers and sisters, Mildred, Robert, Vivian, Austin, Alecia, Madeline, Bernice, Tony. He was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Mildred, Arlene, Richard, Charlotte and Elwell.

A graveside service will be held 1:30 pm, August 30, 2015 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Town of Deer Isle, Judy Dunham, PO Box 46, Deer Isle, ME 04627 for the Deer Isle War Memorial, located on the Monument Road, Deer Isle, Maine.
