Martha's Story

BAR MILLS - Martha Gay Tukey, "Marfy," 61, died May 18, 2014 after a short illness. She has been surrounded by many family members, friends and co-workers who all say she was the light of their lives. Marf entered our world, March 31, 1953, in Bangor, the daughter of Gen. Philip Tukey and Jane Thompson Tukey.

She attended Bangor Schools and graduated in 1971 and completed her education at Wheaton College in 1975. Always an advocate for people, she has been a case worker for the State of Maine for 30 years, and truly made a difference in her clients with developmental disabilities. Marf loved to travel, especially to climates where there is always sun and warm water. She had just completed a two-week cruise to the Caribbean with her sister to enjoy those luxuries not available in Maine during the winter. Marf adored her son, Chris and he is so thankful for her unconditional love throughout his life.

She is survived by her mother, Jane Tukey of Scarborough, her son, Christopher Chesaux and wife, Mathala of Bar Mills, sister, Linda Tukey and her partner, Edgar Therrien of Standish, and granddaughter, Janieva who has been the new love of her life. As a family we would love to thank everyone for your support. To family, friends and coworkers, we appreciate you more than we can express. Thank you to everyone who has given her such exceptional care and helped us in this journey.

There are no services at Marf's request, but a celebration of her life will be announced later so we all can enjoy the sun and water with her. To share condolences and memories with the family, please go to In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice that Marf would like or pass on a kind deed to someone in need.
