Marlene's Story

HOWLAND - Ms. Marlene York left this world peacefully and comfortably on March 12, 2016, surrounded by love in the beautiful palliative care suite at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln. She was born to loving parents, John H. York and Ruth (Nason) York on June 15, 1936, at home in Howland.

She attended Howland schools and participated in many activities. After graduation, she married William Bridges of Orono. They resided for several years in Connecticut before retiring to Maine. She and her husband adopted a beautiful baby girl, they named Brenda, who brought them much joy and two grandsons, Matthew and Michael. Marlene loved them dearly. Marlene loved animals, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She worked many years in the health care field.

She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Brenda; her ex-husband, Billy; and four siblings. She is survived by her beloved sister, Beverly Ireland of Howland; her two grandsons; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed by her caregivers and friends, Scott Archer and Troy Pinkham, who took care of her in her home the last six years.

Graveside services will be announced later in the spring. Interment will be at Howland Cemetery.
