Mark's Story

Text size

BREWER - Mark E. Morehouse, 62, a quiet, unassuming man passed in his chair on October 8, 2014. He died surrounded by his beloved dogs, Maddie, Apple and Bosco. His late father-in- law called him the Pied Piper of dogs.

He married his wife Margaret on December 28, 1975, gaining a very colorful family including Anne and Galen Labree, Tabitha and Stephen King, Stephanie and James Leonard, Chris and Lorna Spruce, Thomas and Lori Spruce, Marcella Spruce and all their children. He and Margaret were each others' best friend through thick and thin.

With Margaret, he raised Chris, Carrie, Timothy and Thomas Atwood, providing them with love and support. They and their spouses Cyndie, Eric Thompson, Dawn, and Tami gave him seven wonderful grandchildren whom he loved deeply: Maggie, Ben and Sam Thompson, and Caitlin, Aimee, Jolie and Camden Atwood.

He completed his Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh after working ten years at Champion Stud Mill in Costigan, Maine. He attained professional certification for industrial hygiene (CIH) and owned Environmental Safety Professionals in Brewer, Maine.

Mark grew up in Bradford, PA with siblings Amy Neely, Craig and Gary Morehouse, and Laura Shade. He had many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lee and Lois Morehouse, his in-laws, Raymond and Sarah Spruce, two nephews, Nathaniel Shade and Cole Neely, sister- and brother-in-law, David and Catherine Graves, and the old dogs, Ndoki, Ursa, Blue, Sam & Katie. May all of you reminisce until we join you.

Mark loved planet Earth and was a true believer in climate change. He was a bold progressive and believed the well-to-do should care for the least of our brethren no matter what color they were. Please remember him by catching a ray of sun, planting a tree, helping a neighbor, or feeding the hungry.

Funeral services will be private as per his request. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
