Marjorie's Story

BANGOR - Marjorie Clarke Hall, 91, died peacefully March 19, 2014. She was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Winchester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Theodore Parker and Christine (Montgomery) Clarke.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Durell Hall, and sister of the late Norman Montgomery Clarke. Marjorie was a 1940 graduate of Winchester High School, and a 1942 graduate of Westbrook Jr. College, where she studied to become a medical secretary. She worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital both before and after her service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. From 1968 until her retirement in 1977, she was the administrative assistant at Scandia Trading Co., in Winchester, MA, a skiwear and sportswear manufacturer. Throughout her life, Marjorie was an active community volunteer, in her church, in hospitals, in schools, and as a hospice volunteer. Her engaging smile and warm personality endeared her to people she met.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Paul Szal of Bangor; by three grandchildren, Katherine Von Kohorn and her husband, Daniel, Carolyn Guard and her husband, Matthew, and Timothy Szal and his wife, Jamie; and by three great-grandchildren, Ella, Theodore, and Claire Von Kohorn.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 234 French Street, Bangor, ME 04401, or the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 1441, Bangor, ME 04402. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
