- Marietta Cole, 57, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2017, after waging a courageous battle against lung cancer. She was born May 27, 1959, in Millinocket, the daughter of Felix and Louise (Gantnier) Cote.
Marietta was known by the children as "Mrs. Fun Fun". She thoroughly enjoyed bringing the joy of reading to the area children. She also enjoyed cruising on Moosehead Lake with her fiancé, Woody, and spending many overnights anchored at her favorite spot, Mt. Kineo. She had fond memories of some of her best friends at Moosehead Lake, one of her favorite trips was sailing 5 days from Cousins Island to Southwest Harbor collecting sea glass. Marietta's #1 most favorite trip was travelling to Texas in 2015 to be with her son Jamie, his wife Emily, and her granddaughter Sydney and see her grandson Logan, who was born at that time. Marietta was filled with faith and loved her Lord, Jesus. She had more than one miracle and she knew the Lord's angels were working overtime for her. In her battle, she was courageous and brave and was wounded more than once and received her medal of honor when she went into the arms of her blessed hope, the Lord Jesus on the early morning of April 18, 2017. Her favorite bible verses were 1 Corinthians 15, Romans 1:16, and Hebrews 11:6, about salvation and 1 Corinthians 15:52-54, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, the "Rapture", and she would say, comfort one another with these words.
In addition to her mother, Louise Cote, Marietta is survived by her loving son, Jamie L. Cote and wife Emily; grandchildren, Sydney and Logan; fiancé Woody McCafferty; brothers, John, Joe, Joel, Jeff and fiancé Tania, Jacob and wife Angela, and Jayson Cote; sisters, Suzanne Kendall, Myra Cote, and Sherri McLaughlin and her husband Buddy; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Felix S. Cote, and brothers Jerome, Jamie, and Justin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Interment will be in the family plot at the East Millinocket Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket.
