- Marie Arlene (Robbins) McHenan, age 82, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, November 5, 2016, (National Donut Day) in Deer Isle, Maine. She was born on February 23, 1934, in Stonington, ME, daughter of the late Kenneth Robbins and the late Marquerite (Arey).
Marie graduated from high school with honors as co-valedictorian of her class. For 33 years, Marie fried donuts and was known as the donut lady on the island. She even sold them to the local grocery stores and fishermen. Some folks have tried to recreate donuts from Marie's recipe, but they aren't the same. That's probably because Marie put a little extra love and care into each donut. She enjoyed scrapbooking and collecting photos of her family. Marie had a strong bond with a dog named Dallas and enjoyed the other therapy dogs at the Island Nursing Home. She loved animals.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. McHenan, whom passed away in 1982; both of her parents; infant daughter, Pamela Jean McHenan; brother, Norman Robbins; very dear friend and classmate, June Snow.
She is survived by her sister, whom she raised as her daughter, Carol (Robbins) Emerson Moreau of Rollingsford, NH; brother, Gerald Robbins of Portland, ME; sons, Donny McHenan and wife, Regina and Chuck McHenan and wife, Sandra, all of Stonington, ME; daughters, Debbi Russell of Waterville, ME, Judith Williams and husband, John of Stonington, ME, Elizabeth Dawes and husband, Peter of Bangor, ME; grandchildren, Mark Williams and wife, Ellen of Colchester, VT, Robbie Williams and spouse, Arthur of Lake Worth, FL, Angela Grindal and husband, Aaron of Sedgwick, ME, Jessica Russell and spouse, Gloria of Augusta, ME, Traci Martin and husband, Jon of Stonington, ME, Katelyn Burns of Bangor, ME, Cameo McHenan of Washburn, ME; great-grandchildren, Brayden Martin, Chace Grindal, Jacqueline Carlton, Sara Carlton, and McKenna Martin; nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Jennifer, Mary Ellen, Paula, Darlene, Mary Anne, Tina, Elaine and Gary Robbins; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
