Marie's Story

BANGOR - Marie Leona (Rouse) McGlauflin, 91, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Hibbard's Nursing Center in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born June 24, 1924, in Hodgdon, the daughter of Earle and Weltha (Stockford) Rouse.

Her early years were spent on the family farm honing skills that would serve her a lifetime. Marie played basketball for Hodgdon High School developing a life-long enjoyment of the sport. She was an avid fan of NCAA basketball and cheered for Duke University. After high school, she went to Connecticut becoming a "Rosie the Riveter" at Pratt and Whitney as a hydraulics specialist.

She married George L. McGlauflin in Boca Raton, Florida, on April 28, 1945, after which they returned to Maine, eventually settling in Bangor. Marie dedicated her life to being a wife and mother, raising four children, and taking care of the home. She also worked outside the home using her domestic skills. She and George were very involved in Scottish festivals throughout the Northeast for many years.

Marie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Bangor, serving in many capacities as needed. She served on the Board of Directors of the Kings Daughters Home for many years and undertook stateside missions trips. In later years, she attended United Baptist Church in Milo, where her son, Philip, is the pastor.

Marie was a kind-spirited woman with a touch of spunk. She had an infectious laugh that left people feeling better after having spent time with her. She was also famous for her baked beans, beet pickles and potato salad. She will be desperately missed by her entire family, but is leaving behind a legacy of stories and an example of what a good, hard working, selfless, wife, mother, grandmother and friend should be. She gave of herself freely with an open heart. She could make anything fun, even raking the leaves. It was just her way. Everyone was blessed for having known this beautiful woman.

In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, George L. McGlauflin, and her brother, Keith Rouse. She is survived by her children, Robert McGlauflin, and his wife, Margaret, of Bangor, Lawrence McGlauflin and his wife, Leeanne, of Virginia, Philip McGlauflin and his wife, Becky, of Sebec, and Rachel McGlauflin Scott and her husband, Duane, of Texas; grandchildren, David, George II, Jennifer, Jacob, Shane, Heather and Erin; great-grandchildren, Evan, Eden, Ella, Evelyn, and Khloe; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Sandra Flint-Rouse; several cousins; and special friends, Diane Runnels, Jeannie Lerman, and Ned and Cheryl Dubois and family.

A celebration of Marie's life will be conducted 11am, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 with the Rev. Philip McGlauflin officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10 am until start of service. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Those who wish to remember Marie in a special way, may make gifts in her memory to United Baptist Church, 8 Pleasant St., Milo, ME 04463.
