VAN BUREN - Marie R. Mae Lagasse, 82, died peacefully Friday, June 13, 2014, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. She was born May 2, 1932 in St. Leonard, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Almida Couillard Lapointe and Joseph Soucie.
She worked many years as a dietary aide with former Van Buren Community Hospital, a waitress at former Saucier's and cook at Dayton's restaurants. She enjoyed bowling and was a participant in many leagues. She loved to knit and crochet, sharing most of her crafts with close friends and family, but always had time to play cards with her neighbors and friends.
She is survived by: one son, Michael Lagasse and his wife, Rena of Limestone; two grandchildren, Robin Fortin and her husband, Robert of Caribou and Keith Lagasse and his wife, Kristie of Hubert, NC; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Joshua Fortin and Benjamin and Isabella Lagasse; one great-grandchild on the way; a sister-in-law, Theresa Arsenault; brother-in-law, George Bourgoin and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marie is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Gerard Lagasse in 1988, a son, Jimmy Lagasse, a sister, Jeanine Bourgoin, and a long-time companion, Albert Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning 9-10:30 a.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, Van Buren.
