Marie's Story

SOUTHINGTON, CONN. AND EAGLE LAKE - Marie Anne Fournier, 94 of Southington, CT and Eagle Lake, ME, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Bradley Memorial Hospital, Southington after a brief illness.

Marie Anne was born in Wallagrass, Maine on April 10, 1922, the daughter of Joyime Morin and Ozite Guimond. After the death of her mother due to complications after childbirth she was raised by her grandparents, Sophie and Germain Guimond.

She and her husband Lucien Fournier, who predeceased her in 1999, were married on October 23, 1940, and lived in Maine until 1951, moving to Connecticut and eventually settling in Southington.

After Lucien's retirement, they headed back to Maine for many enjoyable years on Eagle Lake with many very dear friends and family, gardening, baking, and fishing almost daily both summer and winter. Marie was a communicant of St. Joseph Church of Wallagrass, ME, St. Mary's Church of Eagle Lake, ME and St. Thomas Church of Southington. She was also a member of the Daughters of St. Anne.

There was no greater joy to Marie Anne than being with her family and making them happy. This included baking all their favorite sweets including date squares, pies, donuts, whoopie pies and peanut butter fudge. She created many incredible wedding cakes for family members and friends.

When thinking of Marie Anne, she was the ultimate maker of lemonade when given lemons. In the most special way, she always found the good in a bad situation, keeping a smile on her face. She could never, ever say a bad word about anyone and was truly inspirational to all who knew her.
