- Marie Elizabeth (McCormick) Day died on November 20, 2016. She was born in Starks, Maine, on September 15, 1938, the daughter of Edna (Brackett) and Sheridan McCormick. She was a lover of birds, trees, flowers, and water.
Marie met the love of her life, Roland, at 14 when she was a soda jerk in Farmington, Maine, and against all odds, they made an adventurous and fun life together-fishing, hunting, and camping; fording streams in their Land Rover with their 4 lucky children and their dog Trixie piled in the back.
Marie and Roland played and worked together; buying Bangor Millwork in 1977 and establishing Bangor Wholesale Laminates a few years later. To Marie's great pride the business has employed many family members over the years.
Marie and Roland's house, camp, or campsite was always the "place to be," and they built strong family connections there. She was a loving grandmother with a quick wit, making every holiday a special and lasting memory for all. In her last years she enjoyed Florida, "wine time," being with her dog Emily, and waking up to the sunrise at Junior Lake.
Marie leaves a daughter Laurie Gehrke and husband Bruce of Hermon; son Layton Day and wife Lorri of Glenburn; and daughter Kim Day of Washington, D.C.; brothers George McCormick and wife Minnie; William McCormick and wife Rose; sister-in-law, Dorothy McCormick; and brother and sister in-law Lloyd and Peggy Day. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jeffery Buzzell, Jennifer Mulcahy, Steven Buzzell, James Gehrke, Cassie Craig, Nicole Johnston, Wesley Day, MacKenzie Day, and Katie Day and her 8 beloved great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Roland Day, her daughter Ellen Marie, both of her parents and her loving stepfather Venard MacKenzie Sample, brother John McCormick, sister Noreen Pillsbury, and son-in-law Rick Chase.
A celebration of life will held at Jeff's Catering in Brewer on Saturday, November 26th 2016, from noon to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Lung Association.
