- Marie A. Carter, 69, died unexpectedly May 25, 2017, only 13 days after being diagnosed with cancer. Marie was born in Dexter on Oct. 3, 1947, the daughter of Malcolm and Winona (Gray) Bradford. She attended Newport schools and was a graduate of Oxnard High School, Oxnard, California.
Marie worked at Dexter Shoe in Newport as a foreman for 20 years until it closed. She went to work at Dick's Sporting Goods in Bangor in the Shoe Department from the time in opened until 2015 when she retired.
Marie was married to Darrell J. Carter who died unexpectedly on Aug. 31, 1998, while guiding bear hunters. She was an active volunteer for the Pine Tree Camp "Ride In" for many years.
Marie was predeceased by her father. She was also predeceased by her mother Winona Custer in Aug. 2016. She is survived by her step-father DeWayne J. Custer of North Newport, her daughter and husband, Colleen and Steven Richardson of Palmyra, several cousins, a special thank you to aunt Regina, uncle Louie, and aunt Dody.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday May 30, 2017, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, with Rev. Ernest Campbell officiating.
