HAMPDEN - Marian E. Gomes passed away in Brewer, ME on May 12, 2015 after a brief illness at the age of 83. Prior to moving to Maine in 2004, she resided in New Bedford, MA. She was born and raised in Dennis, MA.
Marian was born on February 20, 1932 in Hyannis MA to Linwood and B. Harriet (Murray) Foss. She was predeceased by her sister, N. Joan (Bauer) McGuire. Loving mother of David M. Shehab, James V. Shehab , Anne M. Stevens and her husband, Charles L. Stevens all of Brewer, ME, Lynda J. Pennini of Mattapoisett, MA, Elaina J. Grota of Fairhaven, MA, Andrea L. Gomes and Georgia L. Gomes both of Dartmouth, MA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Charlene Castanheira, Kathryn Molinski, Samantha Grota, Emily Stevens, Victoria Silva and Mia Madison and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces, Robin Shaw, Beth Williams, Kristen Squazzo, her nephews, Brian Bauer, Blair Bauer, Brett Bauer and cousins Phyllis Horton, Naomi Costa and
Mary Whittemore. She is survived by her friend, Charles L. Gardner of Newport, ME.
Marian graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1950 and went on to study classical piano and attended the Stenography Institute in Boston, MA.
There she met Victor J. Shehab and they were married in 1952. She later
married George Gomes of New Bedford, MA in 1968. They were married for over 20 years. She loved spending time with family, playing piano, knitting and playing bingo.
She had touched the lives of many people with her thoughtfulness, generosity, compassion, and quick-witted sense of humor. There will be a private graveside ceremony on Cape Cod, MA.
