Marguerite's Story

Manset - Marguerite A. Gilley, 83, died January 5, 2017, at her home. She was born November 30, 1933, in Hartland, the daughter of Howard and Alida L. (Marshall) Ames.
Marguerite graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1951 and married Jack H. Gilley in 1959. She worked for many years at MDI Hospital as a medical transcriptionist until her retirement in 1998. Throughout the years, Marguerite was an avid reader and especially enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. Marguerite had been a member of the Eugene M. Norwood, Post 69 Auxiliary and the Trenton and Southwest Harbor Historical Society.
Marguerite is survived by her husband, Jack H. Gilley Sr.; son, Jack H. Gilley Jr. and fiancee, Cheryl, of Franklin; two sisters, Ellen Stanley and husband, Frank, of West Tremont and Laura Sullivan and husband, Donald, of Southwest Harbor; a brother, Dale M. Ames; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Shannon Stanley, Jessie, Melinda and Jillian Gilley, Aaron and Shelby Sullivan; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large extended family and special friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles A. Ames, in 2000.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert. Spring interment will be at Leland Cemetery, Trenton.
