Margaret's Story

ASHLAND - Margaret Frances (McGowan) Michaud, 96, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born in Ashland on May 12,1919,the daughter of Frederick Walter and Kathryn(McNally) McGowan.

After graduating from Ashland High School she worked as a local telephone operator. She married Clarence (Babe) Michaud on February 21,1944.Together they owned and operated Michaud's Restaurant in Ashland. Relatives and patrons enjoyed her home cooked meals and her lengendary doughnuts.

Margaret was a kind and loving person. She was the one her many nieces and nephews relied upon for wise advice given with a sense of humor. Her love of the woods and fishing grew from many years spent living at her fathers sporting camps at Big Machias, Clayton,Pratt and Rowe Lake. Margaret and Babe also enjoyed many years at their own camp at Big Machias Lake. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, music, crossword puzzles and reading.

She is survived by her husband Clarence of Presque Isle, a special niece Debbi Maddi and her husband Dennis of Winthrop, a special nephew Greg Michaud and his wife Vicki of Mapleton,a sister in law Jane McGowan of Enfield, Ct. formerly of Ashland, and her many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Virginia Magill, her brothers Robert, Wilmer and Bertram McGowan.

A private burial will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in Margarets memory can be made to Ashland Public Library P. O. Box 639, Ashland, Me.
