Margaret's Story

ORLAND - On September 18th, 2014 surrounded by her loving family, Margaret (Soper) Harriman was reunited with the love of her life, her late husband Robert E. Harriman.

Margaret, known as Peggy to her Portland family and Farmington friends, was born on July 14, 1939, to Norman "Ted" and Doris Soper. She grew up and attended school in Bucksport, graduating from B.H.S. in 1957. She then attended Farmington State Teachers College, where she met, fell in love with, and married her beloved Bob. She was scheduled to graduate with the class of '61; however, the arrival of her first born changed the date on her diploma to 1963.

Margaret taught primary education, first in Rome, ME and then in Union 91 for the remainder of her career. Mom made many lifelong friendships during her career, notably with Olive Patten, Eulita Webb, Barbara Beck, Darrold Mitchell, and too many more to mention.

Margaret and Bob made their home, and raised their family in Orland, in the home she had received as a gift, at the age of 12, from her great Aunt Mag.

Throughout her life, Margaret had a great love of music, from singing with her father as they would swing together in the barn, participating in the BHS Marching Band, and as an accompanist in church, college, and in her school career.

Summers were spent at camp on Toddy Pond which is a special place for our entire family.

Harriman Jr, daughter in-law BeLinda, their two sons Ted Soper Harriman, his wife Holly, and their daughter and Nana's pride and joy her great - granddaughter Xyerra, Estin Robert Harriman and his girlfriend Jenni Hill.
