Margaret 'Maggie' Corcoran, 70, passed away peacefully, October 16, 2016, at a Bangor Hospital. She was born August 18, 1946, in Bangor to William and Mildred (Montgomery) Corcoran. Maggie attended Bangor schools, spending the first part of her life in the Bangor area. She was very proud when she told people she was from Hancock Street. By the mid-1970s, Maggie had worked many years at the Striar Textile Mill in Orono.
In the mid-1980s, she found her way to St. Francis Community in East Orland where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by her new family. Maggie volunteered countless hours to the Community and to HOME Inc. in Orland. From cutting blue jeans for rag rugs to raising chickens, twisting pine cones for wreath decorations to helping in the Bargain Barn, Maggie helped out wherever she was needed and earned an award for her volunteer work from Home, Inc. During the last few years, Maggie volunteered in the front office of HOME Inc., answering phones and caring for Pounce, her office cat.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Althea, her brother, Harold, and her most beloved friend, Sr. Marie Ahern, who took her in when she needed a home and helped her grow into a vital part of St. Francis Community. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Derek Chretien, her most precious granddaughters, Paris and India, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her friends at St. Francis Community and HOME Inc., especially Sr. Lucy Poulin and Ellen Moore. Her absence will also be felt by her much loved pets, Mobey and Fuzzy.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service Wednesday, October 26, at 11 a.m. at the Wayside Chapel, 90 School House Road, Orland. She will be put to rest beside her friend, Sr. Marie at the St. Francis Community Cemetery in East Orland.
