Marcia's Story

FORT FAIRFIELD - Marcia Macdonald Reed, 70, passed away on September 12, 2015. She was born February 5, 1945, in Springfield, MA, the daughter of Priscilla and Rowland Macdonald.

Marcia graduated from Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, ME, after which she became a stewardess for American Airlines. In 1972 she received a Bachelor's degree in History at the University of Maine in Orono before moving to Aroostook County. Upon moving to "The County," she became Director of the University of Maine's Continuing Education Extension program at Loring Air Force Base, where she worked until leaving to raise her children. Many fondly remember her years as Editor of the Fort Fairfield REVIEW. Marcia also taught Adult Education in Fort Fairfield and Caribou for several years. Among her many community activities, she was a past president of the Philomathian Club, a 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and horse show mom. She directed the Little Miss Potato Blossom pageant for many years, and founded the Potato Blossom Festival's popular Household Pet Show ("where every pet is a blue ribbon pet!").

Marcia is survived by her beloved dog, Max; her husband, Duke; a daughter, Elizabeth; a son, Webster; two special cousins, Nancy Griffiths of Key West, FL and Tedd Cluff of Stratham, NH, as well as other cousins, aunts and friends from Maine to Key West.
