Malcolm's Story

MAPLETON - Malcolm E. Brown, 83, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at home following a short illness. Malcolm was born November 18, 1932 in Mapleton, the son of Coleman and Madeline (Maynard) Brown.

He graduated in 1950 from Mapleton High School and the University of Maine in 1952. He farmed 35 years in Mapleton and served in the Maine National Guard from 1955-1964.

Malcolm served on the Mapleton Planning Board for several years, also the Maine Potato Council and the Agway Store Committee. He served a term on the National Potato Board (1983-86). He worked as a crop consultant for Agway for 3 years then went to work for the University of Maine at the Aroostook Research Farm. He retired as Superintendent of the farm in 2001.

He had great memories of the past 60 years of times spent at the hunting camp at McKeen Crossing with some very special friends.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Claudene (Lint) Brown; his son, Timothy and his children Cole, Shea, Jessie and Haddee; nieces, Carol Flynn (Brian), Candy Weymouth (Terry) and nephew, Marc Brown (Glenda).

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Coleman; and sister-in-law, Margaret.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2pm at Southside Cemetery in Mapleton. A reception will follow services at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club.
