Edinburg - Madeline Thurlow, 90, wife of Othniel Thurlow, passed away Nov. 18, 2016, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born June 20, 1926, in Dexter, the daughter of Reuben and Ola (Hewitt) Brann. Madeline graduated from Dexter High School.
She was a hard worker all her life. In her younger days she worked in hand sewn shoe shops. For many years she had her own business reupholstering furniture, for which she gained a wide reputation. She enjoyed painting and outdoors activities such as hunting and fishing. She was even known to out shoot the game wardens. She served more than 25 years as secretary of the Howland-Enfield Federal Credit Union and was a long time member of the Howland United Methodist Church, where she was active in the women's group. She enjoyed traveling in her later years, and was very devoted to her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children and their spouses, William Thurlow and Elizabeth, Donald Thurlow and Ann, Diane and Carroll Lufkin, and Thomas Thurlow and Ruby; a sister Norma Thurlow; a half-sister Lois and her husband Ted Inman; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter Viola Thurlow and a brother Linwood Brann.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, with Pastor Don Willigar officiating. Interment will be in Edinburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Penobscot Valley Humane Society, P O Box 73, Lincoln, ME 04457.
