MILO AND MELBOURNE, FLA. - Madalene Mayo Davis passed away on May 7, 2015, in Melbourne, FL. She was born in Milo, the daughter of Fred and Emma Mayo and the last of seven siblings. Madalene graduated from Castine Normal School, earning a degree in elementary education. Due to her efforts and talent, many first graders learned to read and love school. She understood children, knowing how they thought and processed their world.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Colonel Carl F. Davis, retired. Their marriage was a genuine love story of care and devotion. During Carl's military career she traveled to such far-flung places as the island of Okinawa, the United States Air Force Academy and Florida. Whenever possible, Madalene taught first grade at each of Carl's many assignments.
Madalene and Carl built a solid and stable life for their daughter, Gail Davis Gannon, and in later years, their grandson, John William Gannon. She was a woman of many facets: loving, generous, gentle, creative, artistic, firm, protective and strong. With Maddie, family always came first and her door and heart were always open. Madalene will be deeply missed by her daughter, grandson, numerous nieces and nephews, cousin, Jack Mayo, and friends.
A memorial service will be held1p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Pastor Phil McGlauflin officiating. After the service, burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
