Louise's Story

MACHISPORT - The angels of Heaven escorted Louise Alta Johnson Gately Proctor to meet family members and her Lord and Saviour on May 2, 2015, while a resident at Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. Louise was born on Novemeber 2, 1930, the daughter of Calvin and Sylvia Clark Johnson. She lived in Machiasport most of her life.

Louise married Edward Gately on September 13, 1947. They had three children: Christine, Edward Jr. and Kathy. Louise was a great cook. She enjoyed traveling, worked in the blueberry and sardine factories, and loved playing Beano. She was instrumental in helping Eddie with his entrepreneurial businesses. After the death of Eddie, she married Harold Proctor on May 9, 1975.

Louise is survived by two daughters: Christine Huckins and her husband Kerry, Kathy Davis and her husband Brian and daughter-in-law, Sharon Gately. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, a siser, Mabel and brothers, Elliott and Elson, both husbands and her son, Edward Gately, Jr.

There will be no funeral service, at her request. In her memory, donations may be made to the Activity Fund at Maine Veterans' Homes - Machias, 32 Veterans Way, Machias, ME 04654-3324.
