PORTLAND - Louise Bailey Ham, age 91, passed away Feb. 20, 2015 with family by her side in her home at Canco Woods , Portland.
Louise was born Nov. 2, 1923 in Howland, ME, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Helene (Faloon) Littlefield. She was the second oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Howland High School as valedictorian in 1941 and attended Maine School of Commerce in Bangor.
Louise spent many hours volunteering in the coffee shop at Maine Medical Center. She served on the Woman's Board at MMC for many years. These years of service gave her great pleasure.
Throughout her life she loved to travel. She took her three children and their spouses on many wonderful trips and traveled extensively with friends. She enjoyed boating, especially in Casco Bay, having taken a Coast Guard Boating Safety course.
Louise and her first husband, Henry Foss, opened and operated Foss' Restaurant in Milo for many years. After her move to Falmouth, she worked as a bookkeeper, assisting her second husband Elwin Bailey in his sales career with L.R. McCoy. Mr. Bailey died in 1991. In August 1998 she married John Ham. They enjoyed many memorable moments together, such as a trip to Ireland, until his passing in 2005.
Louise was pre-deceased by brothers Austin, George, Fay and Wayne and sisters Sylvia Nutter, Harriet Davis, Dorothy Packard and Merle Thibodeau.
She is survived by her children Lawrence C. Foss and his wife Virginia of Milo; Brenda Foss MacDonald and her husband David of Old Orchard Beach; and Bette Lyn Bailey Malone of Hernando, FL. Louise has four grandchildren: Sheri Conley and husband Peter of Milo; Rebecca Smith and husband Clifford of Fairfield; Charles Foss and wife Robyn of Saco; and Kaitlyn Malone of FL. She has four great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She has three step-sons: Richard E. Bailey; John T. Ham and wife Sue; and Stephen Christopher Ham and wife Cheryl. Two step-daughters also survive Louise: Bonnie Lee Bailey and Catherine Ham. Her sister Sheila Rossingol of CT and sister-in-law Frances Littlefield of Maxfield ME also survive her.
The family thanks Hospice of Southern Maine along with Marilyn and her band of angels at New England Family Healthcare for the respect, dignity and kindness shown to Louise which enabled her to remain in her home through her final day.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-6:30PM on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited on Thursday at 10:15AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd, South Portland.
