Louise's Story

DYER BROOK - Louise J. Farrar, 81, went home to be with her Lord on September 18, 2014. She was born May 23, 1933 in Weston, the daughter of Hollis Crone and Ruby T. Gilpatrick.

Louise attended Danforth High School, graduating with her sister, Lucille in 1952. She started working while still in high school, caring for her young cousins in Rhode Island and also worked at Rideout's in Weston. After marrying her husband, Joseph A. Farrar, and having her children, she worked at Grant's and later at the Southern Aroostook school cafeteria. She and her husband purchased Smyrna Plaza and the family operated their hotel and diner for several years. She was also the bookkeeper for Joseph A. Farrar and Son Trucking. In her retirement she stayed busy working in First Settlers Lodge, serving in her church, and working with her daughters and grandchildren in "The Bus". Louise was a servant to all, a friend to many and most importantly, she was a dedicated and loving mother to her children. She will be missed for her cooking and her kindness towards all.

She is survived by her children, Arnold Farrar and his wife, Brenda, Darlene Bishop and her husband, James, Ruth Farrar Suitter; 2 grandchildren, Dave Suitter Jr., Kelsi Suitter Rockwell and her husband, Josh; 2 great grandchildren, Farrah Suitter and Brayden Rockwell. She is also survived by 2 siblilngs, Elbridge Cleaves and his wife, Judy and Carolyn Cleaves Fickett and her husband, John; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She leaves behind along time friend, Lois Hiscoe and a close friend, Neal Botting as well as many others too numerous to list. Louise is predeceased by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Joyce; her sisters, Lucille Spurgeon and Marie Fannin; and step-father, Alonzo Cleaves.

The family would like to thank Hospice, Terry and Katie Duff who carried for Mom during her final days. They also extend their gratitude to Melissa Grant, Lois Barnes and others who visited, brought food, sent flowers and mailed cards.

Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton where funeral services were held 2 p.m. on Sunday with the Rev. Peter Grenier officiating. Interment will be in the Dyer Brook Cemetery.
