Loren's Story

MILLINOCKET - Loren E. Blaisdell, 85, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born October 2, 1929, in Bangor, the son of Dr. Carl E. and Nellie L. (Smiley) Blaisdell.

Loren was a graduate of Bangor High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division, serving during the Korean War. He attended the Northampton School in New Hampshire, the University of Maine, Husson College, and graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts with a degree in Bookkeeping. After his college graduation, Loren stayed in the Boston area, working for the Hood Rubber Company in Watertown, MA.

Through his father, a physician in Bangor, he heard of an opening for a controller at the Millinocket Community Hospital. He applied for the job and was hired immediately, so he gave his notice in Boston on a Friday and started work in Millinocket on Monday! He stayed on staff at the hospital for more than 25 years, and then went to work for the town of Millinocket as a bookkeeper until he retired in the early 1990's.

Loren taught his wife, Anita, how to golf, and they golfed many times a week in Dover Foxcroft. He also enjoyed wood carving, hunting and fishing when he was younger, and always enjoyed working in his yard.

Loren is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anita (Nadeau) Blaisdell of Millinocket; two children, Bethanie May Blaisdell of Hancock, Loren Thomas Blaisdell of Shelburne, Vermont; two grandsons, Steven Roberson of Hancock, and Joshua Roberson and his wife, Stacie of Franklin; four special stepdaughters, Johnna, Corrie, Lucinda, and Diane; a stepsister, Jane Poisson of Virginia; two special cousins, Glenice and Ruth; and several stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Loren was predeceased by a brother, Carl E. Blaisdell, Jr.; a sister, Marjorie Smith; and a stepbrother, John Blaisdell.

Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at Millinocket Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
