Lindsey's Story

LINCOLN - Lindsey Bender Chebegia, 65, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Lincoln, Maine on January 7, 2015. She was born in Cook County, Illinois. Lindsey is survived by her former husband and

friend, Jeffrey Chebegia, daughters Sara Haas (David) and Whitney Chebegia, grandson Michael Dolieslager, sister Candace Norum (Thomas), brother William Bender (Kathleen), nieces Lindsey

and Anna Norum, Kristine and Kimberly Bender, Jennifer Bender, nephews Robert Norum and William Bender (Amy), brother-in-law Chester Chebegia (Phyllis) and nephews-in-Iaw Christopher Chebegia (Felipe) and Scott Chebegia (Kimberly). She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Robert and Carolyn Bender of Elkhardt, Indiana, and brother Michael Bender.

Lindsey was employed many years in the health industry, occupying a number of administrative and staffing positions in various medical offices, clinics and organizations. She and her family ultimately settled in the Santa Ynez Valley in California, where she lived her dream in a beautiful rural setting, raising a loving family, a prize winning herd of goats, horses, sheep, chickens and homing pigeons, and serving as the local 4-H dairy goat leader. She loved animals, nature and the country way of life.

Lindsey later moved to Lincoln, Maine, where she lived the last ten years of her life at her home in the woods on the shores of Campolasse lake. She could always be seen and easily recognized in the community with her constant and trusted companion, Reilly, her giant Irish Setter/Golden Retriever service dog, always at her side.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at Clay Funeral Home Lincoln, with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
