NORTHEAST HARBOR - On July 10th, 2015, Linda Savage, 65, of Northeast Harbor passed away after a lengthy illness. Throughout her illness, she was watchfully and tenderly cared for by her family and Hospice of Hancock County. A native of Somesville, Linda was raised on the Parker Farm, the first born of Mary Parker and C. Leslie Smith.
Never one to utter a complaint, Linda will always be remembered for her recognizable infectious smile and up lifting spirit. She met the challenges of the last few years with uncommon grace, strength, and optimism.
For decades, her wonderful smile warmly greeted patrons of the Mt. Desert Post Office. She also served as Postmistress in Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor. She had a welcoming way which made each and every person feel special, always available for a little extra chat. Most recently, Linda's energy, charm, and outgoing personality flourished at the family run Asticou Connection gallery in Town Hill.
While Linda had traveled over the years, her true love was for her family, home, and animals, especially her Scottish Highland cattle. Additional long-term pets included two adventuresome Labrador retrievers and a rescue dog named Oscar.
Linda loved large family gatherings and parties at her home, particularly over the traditional holidays where Linda was able to plan, decorate and cook so that all could have a memorable good time. She enthusiastically embraced the genuine spirit of giving for the benefit and care of others.
In addition to Rick, her husband and partner of 31 years, Linda is survived by her son, Edd Hamor and Danette of Bar Harbor, friend and daughter Edi Hall and Matt of Mt. Desert, step-daughter Laura Savage Leonard and Jeff of Mt. Desert, and step-son Thomas Savage and Meghan of Northeast Harbor. Great joy was greeted with visits from her grandchildren Ethan, Rachel, Brooke, and Helayna.
Surviving siblings include David Smith of San Diego, Joanne Bradt and husband Dirck of Mt. Desert, nephew Joe Renault and his wife Beth of Mt. Desert, Ellen Smith and husband Jay of Bar Harbor, and Amy Gower and partner, Scott Baltz of Mt. Desert, and a maternal uncle, George S. Parker of Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northeast Harbor Nursing Association, P. O. Box 397, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662 and Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
A celebration of her life and memorial service will be held at her home on Gatehouse Road, Northeast Harbor, Maine at 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 18, 2015. All are welcome.
