Lewis's Story

ST. ALBANS - Lewis Ervin McLeod, 89, died September 1, 2015 at a Hartland nursing home. He was born December 24, 1925 in Dexter, a son of John and Gertrude (Giles) McLeod.

Lewis worked hard all of his life operating McLeod's Construction, a business that sustained 3 families for many years, and is still operating today under his son Steven's ownership. During the winter months Lewis and his sons contracted for snow removal, spending many tiring hours plowing roads. Lewis was also an excellent self taught mechanic and could fix nearly anything, often designing and making new parts for his projects. These skills were passed on to his boys who continue using his acquired knowledge today. He was the St. Albans Road Commisioner for 20 years and belonged to the Hartland-St. Albans Lions Club in his early years.

Lewis and his wife Rowena (Harris) lived in their home for 68 years before they both moved into a local nursing home. During their marriage they had 3 children: Ervin and wife Linda, Steven and wife Margaret, and Judy Cummings; 4 grandchildren, Michael Cummings and wife Veronika, Torrey McLeod, Ann Bond and Bobbie Roberts; 5 great grandchildren. Lew's dad also had other children.

Lewis was predeceased by his son in law Carl Cummings, and his great granddaughter Trinity Cummings.
